Today is World HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, and I have seen a lot of talk about protecting yourself. To be sure, you can’t live in this world and not be fully aware of this dreadful disease and its sociological effects. We can never expect to conquer HIV/AIDS without being responsible.
However, at the risk of sounding preachy, “protection” isn’t your best option in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. This is a sexually transmitted disease, which means the main way of contracting it with is sexual activity. This means any sort of sexual activity puts you at risk. This is why God designed sex exclusively for the marriage covenant. Ideally, marriage creates the safest environment for the most physically intimate behavior. So if you aren’t married, abstinence is your best protection; and if you are married, fidelity is your best protection. Premarital sexual abstinence and marital fidelity is the MOST responsible we can be.
I know, many of us have not done well in the past in this department, but today is a new day. If you want to be safe, the safest place is in God’s will. His will is that you save your sexual expressions for your spouse. So don’t “wrap it up”, lock it up and give God the key … don’t worry He’ll make a copy for your spouse!
