Ever noticed how happy Christmas songs are? I don’t necessarily mean the lyrics, but the music on most Christmas songs just seem to be saturated with joy. And rightly so. The thought of Jesus bringing hope to mankind is a happy thought. But I really realized the happy feelings of this season’s songs when I heard Mary J. Blige singing the Stevie Wonder classic, “Someday at Christmas”.
No disrespect to Mary, because she is one of the greatest R&B singers of our time. BUT …. We all know that Mary and happy songs don’t go together. Her claim to fame is being able to channel her misery into her music. Hearing her sound so happy threw me for a loop; but as miserable as Mary’s life may have been, she is yet able to find hope at Christmas time.
Be encouraged my friend; because our hope is not in the season, it’s in the Savior. Christ brings joy and peace all year. Let’s learn to channel that Christmas joy in every season.
