I’m beginning to think that people actually enjoy being hated on. There is a lot of talk on Facebook & Twitter about people hating; and I understand it. Haters are real. Haters are alive and here to stay. I understand that haters are going to hate; and yes, I even believe that haters hated on Jesus. I understand that I’m not exempt from the hate that haters express. I get it; I really do. But my question is, why do we give haters so much face time?If “they” are hating that hard, we really shouldn’t give “them” more reasons to hate. Acknowledging a hater with provoking remarks is like hanging a big flashing sign that says “Wussup Haters! Hate on Me!”
There is never a reason, good enough, for participating in such behavior. When we respond with a condescending tone, we only incite the hater to hate harder. We don’t see Jesus sending shout-outs His haters, thanking them for making Him famous. He would directly address the Pharisees and Sadducees only when they publicly challenged Him.
Jesus does, however, give us instructions for handling such people. He said, in His Sermon on the Mount, “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” (Luke 6:27-28, NASB)
It’s our responsibility to do what God wants us to do, and let the haters hate. We just have to treat people right, regardless of how “they” treat us. So just say “hi” and keep it moving. Adding your little bit of negativity will only diminish the positive.
