As I am writing this, it is Memorial Day 2013; the day we set aside to remember those who have gone on before us in death. We particularly honor those who have died while protecting our liberties. Remembering the sacrifices that others have made in order for us to live as free a we chose, is more than firing up the grill and having fun in the sun. It becomes so easy to fall back and not take advantage of the opportunities God has given to us. However, today is a great day to change the course you’re on.
We all have dreams, desires, goals, and wishes for our lives. But whether it be fear or procrastination, we put off for the never arriving tomorrow, what could be done today. I know it’s hard to consider, but for every day we live, we draw closer and closer to the day we will die. I don’t say this to depress you and make you uncomfortable, it’s just a fact. One Memorial Day, someone will be laying flowers on our grave.
The sobering fact of death, should inspire us to live. Don’t waste another minute on an excuse for not reaching for you goals. Don’t lose another day feeling sorry for yourself, when God has given you this day as an opportunity to create the world you have only dreamed of. It would be such a waste for those who have died defending our freedoms, for our generation, or the next to squander it away on trivial things.
So let me encourage you (as I encourage myself), to make today a turning point. Live the life you want to live and not the life that you perceive you have to live. Regardless of any past mistakes, you have been given a new grace and a newopportunity to do and have God’s best for you. Don’t worry about the opinions and criticisms of others. If they help you, good. If they hurt you, shake it off. With God on your side, YOU are the only one who can stop you. So get out of your own way and make it happen!
