The Beauty Of The Gospel

If there is one thing I hate, it’s qualifying compliments. We’ve all heard them. We’ve all said them.

  • She’s pretty for a dark-skinned girl. *
  • He’s cute for a short guy.
  • She’s sweet to be from that neighborhood.
  • He’s pretty fly for a white guy. ^

fly white guyWhy give a compliment, then qualify it? As if to say, one isn’t truly worthy of such kind words. Every culture has a standard of beauty and acceptance, and most of us long to fit in those standards. So many people will go to the extreme to fit in certain jeans regardless of the genes we’ve been given. I am in no way suggesting that we shouldn’t present ourselves well, nor strive to be healthy; but it is completely unhealthy to live our lives trying to fit in boxes not made for us, in order to please people.

Naturally confident people may be giving me the big “DUH!!” right now, but most of us, if we would be honest, struggle with confidence and acceptance. But this is the beauty of the Gospel. If you have found it difficult to love yourself, or struggled with a poor self-image, or lacked confidence, or suffered from low self-esteem … I HAVE GOOD NEWS!

Are you ready?

God loves you!

I feel you saying, “DUH!!! Of course I know God loves me. That’s nothing new!”

But wait there’s more …. God loves you and He has already accepted you. God can’t love you anymore than He already does, and there is nothing you can do to earn any of God’s love. You are already accepted. God created you. You were no accident, or surprise in God’s plan. He knew you even before He created the world. “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all.” (Psalms 139:1-4 NASB)

He knows everything about you: the good, bad and ugly. Yet He still wants you! Regardless of how holy and righteouss He is, He wants you! He sees your imperfections and He knows your flaws, and He still want you. God wants you so much that He sacrificed His Son so that He could have fellowship with you! “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NASB)

It’s one thing to sacrifice for the things you need, but it is a whole other animal to sacrifice for the things you want. And God wants you! This is what He is saying to you: “You don’t have to change a thing to come to me, but if you come to me, you will be everything thing I intend for you to be.

If you can just accept that He loves you THAT much, you can be freed from the pressure to be perfect. You won’t have to burden yourself with finding the flyest clothes, rocking the right hairstyles, driving the dopest car, or losing that last 5 pounds. God will empower you to be the best you, and then you can rest in the knowledge that you are accepted and loved. You may not ever please men or fit into their vision for you, and you don’t have to. Get close to God, and He will perfect you.

Now THAT’s beautiful!
