I shared the news of my 250th blog post with a friend of mine, and he suggested I write about my dreams and aspirations. In light of that, I realized a long time ago, that I am a lot more ambitious than I’d like to admit. There was a time I’d see people doing things, and making moves, and would feel some type of way because I’m (seemingly) not doing the same things. Then I’d take a step further, to placate these feelings, trying to convince myself that I really don’t want those opportunities, or that notoriety. I was basically sitting in the nest, lying to myself. Honestly, some days I still have those feelings; looking at the eagles soaring from mountain to mountain, feeling stuck, when all I have to do is spread my wings, and fly away.
A bird takes flight by spreading its wings and pushing down the air that is above it, subsequently lifting it higher. This bird has to do the work of “flapping” for it to reach the altitude that allows it to soar without effort. All of US have wings too. God has given each of us talents, and gifts designed lift us up higher. But gifts and talents were never meant to negate the work. Once I put in the work, the atmosphere around me, has to come subject to my velocity and I have no choice but to soar effortlessly. That’s when you are operating in the realm of your gift making “room for you” (Proverbs 18:6)
Perhaps you’re like me. There are places you want to go in life, but the only way to get there is to fly. It is impossible to fly on the ground. You have to spread your wings, by working your gift, honing your skills, and displaying your talents. Don’t be afraid of failing or falling. Keep on flapping your wings and your fall will not destroy you. What ever wings God gave you are meant to lift you up to the places you hope for.
Let me encourage you, to get going. You will never get anywhere remaining still. Sitting on the sideline wishing is the same thing as nesting in the valley, yet hoping to soar. My friend, you have to take that chance and fly. The sky is calm, the stars are bright. What’s better than to be in flight? Relax your mind and be at ease; and let this journey set you free.
