Mama Said Knock You Out

I’ve heard it seen at time and time again. A parent will get down on their knee and look their small child in the eyes and say something to the effect of, “I ain’t raising no punk. Now, don’t you start a fight, but you better not let them run over you.”

Growing up in the “hood” this was a common theme among the kids. We were instructed to stand our ground, and not to back down. Don’t be scared. Don’t be a coward. Don’t let anyone get the best of you. Even if you don’t win, you still better fight! Running was NOT an option.

Well, we all have a common enemy. A bully really. You may never see him, but he is in your face everyday. You need to remember, that the spiritual world is real; just as real as the physical world, and all around us there is a war going on. Spirits are continuously engaged in a fight that we never see, but we certainly feel its effects. Not only that, but there is a fight going on inside of those who desire to live for the true and living God; where our flesh (or sinful nature) is fighting against our spirit. We are constantly pulled into these fights, and we should never back down, or roll over. We have to get in there and engage.  Here is how you fight:

  1. Engage in Prayer – Keep your lines of communication with the Almighty open. Talk to Him and listen for His voice.

  2. Engage in Worship –  Give all glory to God. Praise him, not just for what He has done, but for who He is. I know that sounds cliche, but we should praise Him beyond the joy of receiving from Him, and glorify Him for just being awesome.

  3. Engage in God’s Word – Having the Word of God embedded in your heart is the strongest defense in this fight. The truth of the Word can not be disputed, so not only is it a defense, it can become a strong offense.

  4. Engage in Discipline – Submitting to God positions you for victory over your enemy every time. Having the discipline to consistently engage in the afore-mentioned ways, as well as being sensitive to God’s leading, by way of righteous living, fasting, and silence, creates a no-lose strategy in these fights.

  5. Engage with Stamina – Don’t lose heart along the way, but stay in the fight. Giving up is never an options, so no matter how hard it may be, you have got to keep going.

God has equipped us to fight, and we have no excuses. So don’t come back all beat up or defeated, and you didn’t even engage. Don’t insane. Just start a hurricane, releasin’ pain, lettin’ the enemy know he can’t gain or maintain, because you’re carryin’ the Lord’s name!

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
