I was working for a parcel delivery company, years ago. I was the only one working at the time, because my wife had two toddlers and a new one on the way at home. All of my coworkers knew my situation, so one day, a young lady I worked with, pulled me to the side and asked “How do you do it?”
I said, “Do what?”
She began to explain to me that she was a divorced, single mother of one, and barely making her ends meet. She described how she knew she couldn’t be making much more than me, but I had two more mouths to feed than her, not to mention the one on the way. So she asked again, “How do you do it? How are y’all surviving, and don’t even seem stressed out about it?”
I responded with a smile, “I trust God.”
She rolled her eyes and said, “I know, I know … but really? How do you do it?”
“That’s it!” I said. “I just trust in God.”
I tell this story with all humility because if it wasn’t for God, I know my life would be five times more stressful than it is. My, so-called, success in life has very little to do with me, and what I do in my own strength, but has everything to do with Him. Trusting Him has made the difference in my life.
- Trusting God is all or nothing. This is not a part-time, on again, off again type of arrangement. We have to fully lean and depend of God to be the source of not only our strength, but also our stuff. He will provide everything that we need, be it physical or psychological, so we can just say we trust Him, and continue to try a do it on our own.
- Trusting God is a spiritual thing. If we could just make up our mind to trust God, more people would. But trusting Him isn’t an act of our will, it’s a spiritual thing. God gives those of us who believe Him unto salvation, access to His Spirit, that helps us to believe the unbelievable. It’s not going to “just happen”.
- Trusting God will have others wondering.Just like the young lady asked me, “how do you do it.” trusting in God will have people trying to figure out your secret. You will seem happier than you feel. You will look more “successful” than you are. It will appear that you “got it all together”, even if you’re holding on by a thread, because trusting God makes all the difference in the world.
At the end of the day, you want to live a life, to be able to tell people, “this is how we do it!” We trust in God. If you were from where I’m from then you would know, that I only get mine from a GREAT BIG GOD; and my God does it like nobody does.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (New American Standard Bible)
